At the time of my sailing, Wonder of the Seas was the largest cruise ship in the world. Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas took over the title in January 2024. At 362 feet long, the Royal Promenade onboard Icon of the seas is longer than a football field, and for the first time, it incorporates ocean views. Icon of the Seas will have a number of new performance venues, including an entire AquaTheater enclosed under the AquaDome. But on Icon, it feels much more spacious, light-filled and airy thanks to walls of glass windows on both sides of the ship and the removal of cabins overlooking the thoroughfare. The main focal point is The Pearl, a walk-through sphere that is actually the structural support holding up the ship since the glass walls are located where most ships have a structural steel frame. TPG was able to explore the ship's five new neighborhoods — such as the young family-focused Surfside and the glass-domed AquaDome — and try some of the new onboard eateries. We even got to meet Rover, the ship's resident chief dog officer. Decks 17 and 18 are accessible only for guests with suites and include private pools and terraces.
Meals in the main dining rooms were included in the price of my ticket. In my experience, the elevators were packed during busy parts of the day, so I found it faster to take the stairs on either side of the elevators. Deck 15 is swimming central with Royal Bay — the biggest pool in the fleet — and the Cove Pool, nestled up against the side of the ship for sea views.
